7 dead in Batangas vehicular mishap

Seven persons died while another was injured in a collision involving a van and a car in Sto. Tomas, Batangas on Saturday night.

Six of the fatalities were identified as car driver Romeo Abarientos, 36; his son Jerome Abarientos, 10; Gerald Dellomos, 22; Cesar Almario, 16; Paul Aldrin Geroy, 16, and Deniel Abarete, 16, all of Barangay San Miguel.

Town police chief Senior Inspector Erickson Go said five of the fatalities died at the scene. Two others died while being treated at the St. Cabrini Hospital.

Also taken to the same hospital for treatment was Aljay Torres, 17, who was listed in critical condition.

Reports said the van, driven by Rodolfo Mandac Jr., was traveling along the President Laurel Highway when it collided with Abarientos’ Toyota Vios at around 9: 45 p. m. in Barangay San Roque.

Mandac was arrested after the incident.

Meanwhile, in Bataan, a bus conductor died while 25 others were injured when their vehicle collided with an oil tanker in Mariveles town on Friday.

Ruel Ocampo of Barangay Cabcaben died while being treated at the Bataan General Hospital.

The 25 victims – including bus driver Felix Sandigan of Pililia, Rizal and the oil tanker driver, whose name was not immediatel­y available – were listed in critical condition.

Reports said the bus was traveling along the Roman expressway in Barangay Lucanin when it collided with the tanker at around 6:30 a.m.

On the same day, five persons including three children were injured in a vehicular accident in Marcos, Ilocos Norte.

Reports said the tricycle driven by Reynaldo Benigno, 56, swerved, causing it to hit a Toyota Land Cruiser driven by Norman Orid, 29, in Barangay Valdez.

Benigno and his passengers, Noralyn Gervacio, 34, and her daughters Ma. Ericka, 12; Jameica, 10, and Ma. Helena, 5, were taken to a hospital for treatment.
