SM Foundation expands college scholarship to Puerto Princesa

-

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY – Aside from increasing the number of its techvoc scholars to 1,000 this school year, SM Foundation has expanded the areas covered by the college scholarship program to include Puerto Princesa. It currently supports 10 scholars from the city, all of whom are in their second year in the Palawan State University with one of them enrolled in FEU IT. The scholars are taking courses in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, IT, computer science, BS elementary education and secondary education, and accountancy.

The expansion of the scholarship program to Puerto Princesa comes as the city awaits the opening of the first SM Store to serve its residents as well as those from other municipalities in Palawan and nearby provinces.

SM is committed to support communities where SM Stores are located. The presence of an SM Store in the area is essential in the pursuit of SM’s corporate social responsibility.

For the scholarship program, it is the SM Store that serves as the field office of the SM Foundation. Officers of the SM Store check and monitor the scholastic progress of the scholars, facilitate their summer and Christmas break jobs, and conduct the necessary training or seminars for the scholars to develop holistically.

The SM college scholarship program was launched in 1993 to help underprivileged but deserving public high school graduates pursue college education. Out-of-school youth are also given the opportunity to harness their skills through SM Foundation’s technical vocational scholarship program for them to have better opportunities in life.
