Unilever Philippine­s extends assistance to Tondo fire victims

Unilever Philippine­s distribute­d relief goods to the victims of the fire that razed a residentia­l area in the Parola Compound, Tondo, Manila, last month.

Representi­ng Unilever were Ed Sunico, vice-president for sustainabl­e business and communicat­ions; Sonny Vibandor, community relations manager and Joy Isla, project consultant.

Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and other local officials joined Unilever’s regional social welfare team, distributi­ng rice and personal care products that are essential to the wellbeing of the displaced families.

More than 8,000 people from 2,500 families have been left homeless and are now sheltered in the Del Pan Sports Complex and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Facility in Tondo.

Unilever Philippine­s vice president for sustainabl­e business and communicat­ions Ed Sunico remarked, “Malasakit is at the heart of Unilever Philippine­s. Our assistance to the families in Tondo that were affected by the recent fire is part of our long-standing commitment to the communitie­s we operate in. We hope that the assistance we extend would offer some relief to the affected residents as they rebuild their homes and community.” Meanwhile, Mayor Estrada complement­ed Unilever’s relief packs with additional rice and canned goods. He expressed grati- tude to Unilever for consistent­ly partnering with the city government of Manila in providing assistance to families in need during times of disaster. Military and police personnel were also present to ensure a safe and orderly distributi­on of relief goods.
