Unilever Philippines extends assistance to Tondo fire victims
Unilever Philippines distributed relief goods to the victims of the fire that razed a residential area in the Parola Compound, Tondo, Manila, last month.
Representing Unilever were Ed Sunico, vice-president for sustainable business and communications; Sonny Vibandor, community relations manager and Joy Isla, project consultant.
Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and other local officials joined Unilever’s regional social welfare team, distributing rice and personal care products that are essential to the wellbeing of the displaced families.
More than 8,000 people from 2,500 families have been left homeless and are now sheltered in the Del Pan Sports Complex and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Facility in Tondo.
Unilever Philippines vice president for sustainable business and communications Ed Sunico remarked, “Malasakit is at the heart of Unilever Philippines. Our assistance to the families in Tondo that were affected by the recent fire is part of our long-standing commitment to the communities we operate in. We hope that the assistance we extend would offer some relief to the affected residents as they rebuild their homes and community.” Meanwhile, Mayor Estrada complemented Unilever’s relief packs with additional rice and canned goods. He expressed grati- tude to Unilever for consistently partnering with the city government of Manila in providing assistance to families in need during times of disaster. Military and police personnel were also present to ensure a safe and orderly distribution of relief goods.
