Alumni honored at Letran Awards
Colegio de San Juan de Letran will honor its outstanding alumni at the Letran Awards tomorrow night at the New World Hotel Makati.
The awardees are examples of Letranites who have manifested the ideals of the school – love for God, country and alma mater – in their respective fields.
To receive the Knights of Letran Award are architect Carmelo Casas; Antonio Tuviera, producer of ‘Eat Bulaga’; Henry Lim Bon Liong of SL Agritech; Jaime Bau- tista of Philippine Airlines; Gregorio Andaman Jr. of St. Dominic Hospital; Fr. Rogelio Alarcon, former rector of Letran.
Recipients of the Don Juan Geronimo Guerrero Award are Jose Maria Aligada, member of Letran’s Board of Trustees; Charles Yu, founder of Grupo de Fil- Chinos; William Uy, who donated classrooms for the school.
Other awardees include former La Union vice governor Mary Jane Ortega (Pres. Manuel L. Quezon Award); Ibarra Panopio of Rotary International District 3860 ( Fray Diego de Sta. Maria Award); Tobias Enverga, the first Filipino to be appointed to the Canadian Senate (San Vicente Liem dela Paz Award).
Also to be recognized are the Grandes Figuras or the 400 Men and Women of Letran, an initiative for the school’s quadricentenial in 2020.
Celegio de San Juan de Letran was established by the Dominicans in Manila in 1620.
