St. Luke’s holds surgery mission in Laoag

The division of minimally invasive surgery of St. Luke’s Medical Center, in partnershi­p with Sagip-Bayan Foundation and St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation Inc. held a first of its kind medical mission in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte last Feb. 22-25 using state-of-theart surgical techniques.

The mission was one of the key activities of the local fiesta of Laoag City this year where a team of highly skilled doctors from St. Luke’s, through the invitation of Mayor Chevylle Fariñas and Vice Mayor Michael Fariñas, provided specialize­d minimally invasive surgery procedures on local patients.

The pioneering medical mission was spearheade­d by St. Luke’s head of the Institute of Surgery and vice president of Sagip Bayan Dr. Menandro Siozon and the head of the division of minimally invasive surgery Dr. Jeffrey Domino with the support of Sagip Bayan president Dr. Sammy Tanzo.

The surgical team performed laparoscop­ic cholecyste­ctomy, hernia repair, ovarian cystectomy, myomectomy and hysterecto­my using the facilities of the Laoag City General Hospital courtesy of its medical director Dr. Francis Dacuycuy.

Included in the team of doctors who performed the surgeries were from the Institute of Surgery, Edward Oliveros, Edgardo Cabrera, Jonathan Joy Adora, Kate Siozon, Patrick Bueno, Kaye Panganiban, Germaine Gelacio, Ruari Lee, Ramiro Benavidez, and Rebecca Isabel Fariñas; from the department of ob- gyne, Marie Cruz- Javier, Elizabeth Esguerra- Ocampo, Camille Ann Abaya, Niña Revecho, Kate Delos Santos, and Joan Toh; from the anesthesia department, Raymond Figuerres, Annie Carvajal, Dennis Bonagua and Julius Liem.
