Soliman files complaint vs DSWD exec

- By RAINIER ALLAN RONDA

Former social welfare secretary Corazon Soliman has broken her silence and fired a broadside against an official of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) who drew flak over sarcastic posts on her personal Facebook account.

Soliman has reportedly filed a complaint before the Civil Service Commission (CSC), asking the body to reprimand DSWD Assistant Secretary Lorraine Marie Badoy over social media posts that are “unbecoming of a civil servant.”

She cited three separate Facebook posts by Badoy on March 17, 28 and 29, which allegedly violated some provisions of the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees on professionalism and sincerity.

In her post, Badoy said the European Union (EU) should engage in online pornography instead of sounding the alarm on the deaths of drug suspects.

Soliman cited another post where Badoy wrote that Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo “has set right a department that was known for its cynicism and its dismal failure in protecting, nurturing, empowering the poor. And she will not stop until everything will be as it should be.”

The third post Soliman brought up was one where Badoy used foul language in addressing her detractors.

The CSC should reprimand Badoy and give her an orientation on the code of conduct of civil servants, according to Soliman.

“Many may not agree and want to say it, but they are afraid. We are in a democracy. Fear is contagious. I hope others will also take a stand. We should not tolerate wrongdoing,” Soliman told ABS-CBN News in Filipino.

Badoy said she is unfazed by the complaint against her.
