SUMMER OF EXCESS
Kurt Geiger’s spring/summer collection is inspired by the maximalist trend of late. Imagine your shoes, not decorated with a giant bow, but as a giant bow, or a pair of stilettos so festive, parts of it dance as you walk. The campaign, which stars British supermodel Edie Campbell, was shot in London, with a fashion fairy tale theme. It features Edie accessorized to the max with handpainted bags and embroidered mules, echoing creative director Rebecca Farrar-Hockley’s inspiration: “love, magic and enchantment.”
At the recent launch of the new collection in the Philippines, we browsed through the collection at the Kurt Geiger store in Greenbelt 5. Lots to choose from, I tell ya. A high-heeled shoe adorned with tangerine pompoms caught my eye. So did a pair of textured silver mules. So did a pair of suede, fucshia mule sandals with stacked heels. Summer seems to be thriving on excess, fashion-wise. We layer our prints, pile on the blush, pat on highlighters, and hook tassels on our earlobes. Not a bad way to celebrate the season.
“Excess is unapologetic in the form of crystal embellishment, exaggerated bows, an abundance of pearls and vintage-inspired hand-sewn appliques. A tiny glitter bag in the shape of a heart can be worn as jewellery, with platform wedges so high your head will be in the clouds!” says Farrar-Hockley.
Meanwhile, pretty oriental prints, hand-sewn floral embellished appliques, while humming birds, eagles and swallow motifs adorn chain shoulder bags, backless slippers, luxe summer sliders and Kurt Geiger’s iconic fashion sneakers.
