Businesswoman died of multiple organ failure after cosmetic surgery
Multiple organ failure secondary to complications of cosmetic surgery was the cause of death shown on the autopsy conducted on businesswoman Shiryl Anabe Saturnino, a police official said yesterday.
Saturnino died at The Icon Clinic in Mandaluyong on March 25 after she underwent liposuction as well as breast and butt surgery.
Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, director of the Eastern Police District, said they would not be filing cases against the doctors and employees of the Icon Clinic using the autopsy report.
Sapitula said they would wait for the result of the pathology examination conducted by the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory on Saturnino.
“The pathology report is more conclusive,” he said.
Sapitula said if Saturnino’s death is proven to be the result of neglect, Dr. Samuel Eric Calderon Yapjuangco, anesthesiologist Dr. Jose Jovito Cordero Mendiola, and nurses Virgil Alec Ongleo, Alvin Carl Genove and Audrey Michelle Santos would face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
“We want to file an airtight case to give justice to the victim and her family,” Sapitula said.
The Special Investigation Task Group Shyril headed by Senior Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo Jr., EPD deputy director for operations, is conducting a probe on Saturnino’s death.
A lawyer for the Icon Clinic asked police for five days to submit the statements of the doctors and nurses who supervised the surgery.
The city government of Mandaluyong has ordered the closure of the clinic.
