Suspect in Marikina professor’s slay falls

- Non Alquitran

A man arrested on Wednesday for alleged shabu possession turned out to be the primary suspect in the killing of a college professor in Marikina City last month, police said yesterday.

Glen Palasan, 29, was tagged in the murder of Alfredo Dimaano, 44, vice president for academic services of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, according to Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula.

Sapitula said their investigation showed that Palasan was the last person seen with Dimaano before he was killed at his house at the corner of Diamond and Sapphire streets in Barangay Concepcion Uno on March 15.

Palasan admitted to police that he was in the room but he did not hear Dimaano shouting for help. However, neighbors claimed they heard the professor asking for help.

Probers said they recovered a glass with Palasan’s fingerprints at the crime scene.

Sapitula said the suspect flunked the polygraph test conducted by police.

According to Sapitula, Palasan had been the subject of Oplan Tokhang by police.

Palasan denied killing the victim.

He is being held by police on charges of murder, theft and possession of illegal drugs, Marikina police chief Senior Superintendent Lorenzo Holanday said.
