MIAS 2017 rides Beyond Performance
The Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) 2017, the Philippines’ biggest motor show in terms of visitor count, cars on display, and exhibitors, proudly opened its doors to the public last March 30 at the World Trade Center (WTC), Pasay City.
To formally open the ceremonies, Worldbex Services International (WSI) founding chairman Joseph Ang, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) acting chairman Thomas Orbos, Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) president Gus Lagman and WSI executive director Francisco Flameño, Jr. led the ribbon cutting and ceremonial turn-on. They are joined by key officers from WSI, namely Levi Ang, Jill Aithnie Ang, Rene Ramos, Tessie Roque and MIAS co-organizers Alvin Uy and Jason Ang.
BEYOND PERFORMANCE
Now on its 13th year, the Philippines’ biggest motor show takes center stage in the largest venue since its establishment.
This year’s MIAS inspires the automotive scene to drive “Beyond Performance” as it curates the best of the best in automotive technology and aftermarket products and services all under one massive venue. Attracting more than 110,000 visitors, the fourday MIAS occupies five indoor structures, spread across a sprawling 34,000 square meters of exhibition space that stretches from the main event hall of the World Trade Center, to two customized tent areas, and the Philippine Trade Training Center.
Inside the main event hall of the World Trade Center, the country’s leading automotive brands set up their booths that proudly showcases the newest members of their expanding fleet of vehicles. At the easttent seamlesslywing annex, connectsan air-conditionedinto another walkway to the Philippine Trade Training Center where world-class customized tuner cars, remarkable collectible vintage and classic cars shine in all their motorized glory. Another section is specially dedicated to various brands, merchants and performance parts suppliers offering auto parts, decals, stickers, car accessories and attachments.
LATEST BRAND LAUNCHES AND EVENTS
Known as the venue for the hottest automotive innovations and exciting highlights, MIAS 2017 put the spotlight on automotive brands, companies and products that showcase innovations that not only bear high-performance capabilitiessafety, efficiency,but also, reliability qualities andof practicality. Among the new models that were launched at this year’s show are the Challenger SRT Hellcat by Dodge, Gratour Midi Truck by Foton, Civic Type R by Honda, Genesis G90 and Creta by Hyundai, Moparized Wrangler (80th anniversary MOPAR) by Jeep, MX-5 RF, CX-5, and CX-9 by Mazda, Impreza by Subaru, Tiguan by VW, and Spark by Chevrolet.
Aside from captivating launches, MIAS 2017 also hosted a heady lineup of pocket activities and event highlights, like the incredible stunt driving performances of one the world’s best precision drivers, Russ Swift. There was also off-road test drives with simulated 4x4 obstacle courses.
There was also the MIAS Petron Custom Classic Car Competition that honored country’s finest car restoration and custom car shops, AAP annual Driver of the Year gala awards night that revered the country’s top drivers in various motorsport disciplines, the Car of the Year (Honda Civic RS Turbo) and Truck of the Year (Isuzu D-Max 3.0L 4x2 LS AT) display at the entrance area of the venue, and the first-ever Motorcycle of the Year, which aims to recognize the thriving motorcycle market in the country.
A successful first, MIAS 2017 also played host to the 3,000 square meter Truck Pavilion which housed the latest models of commercial vehicles and top truck brands. Among the other events were the Die Cast Collectors Philippines (DCPH) swap meet, special miniature die cast car exhibit, RC (remote control) drift race event, Tamiya 4WD race event and the Drift box go-karting.
As the biggest and most anticipated auto event of the year, car buyers and enthusiasts alike can take a closer look at the latest models, technological breakthroughs and some upcoming concepts from premiere automakers. Take part in all the motoring action at MIAS 2017 until tomorrow, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the World Trade Center, Pasay City, Metro Manila and the Philippine Trade Training Center.
