Drug suspect slain in Pateros encounter

A drug suspect was killed while a police officer and a bystander were wounded in an encounter that broke out during a sting in Pateros before dawn yesterday.

Harrison Capestrano, 36, reportedly pulled out a firearm after sensing that he was dealing with undercover agents, according to Chief Inspector Jenny Tecson, spokespers­on for the Southern Police District.

Tecson said Police Officer 2 Carmelo Tuzon suffered a gunshot wound in the hand while bystander Elizabeth Vibar, 57, was hit by a stray bullet.

Tuzon was rushed to the ACE Medical Center in Pateros for treatment. He was transferre­d to the PNP General Hospital at Camp Crame.

Vibar was taken to the Rizal Medical Center in Pasig City. where she underwent surgery.

Police recovered from Capestrano a revolver, a plastic sachet said to contain shabu and drug parapherna­lia.

Meanwhile, two unidentifi­ed men including a minor were injured in separate shooting incidents in Barangay Baclaran, Parañaque City on Friday night.

Police said motorcycle­riding men shot the victim, who ran to a bakery to seek refuge.

In another incident, a pedicab driver was sitting in front of a shoe store when a motorcycle pulled over.

One of the riders approached the victim and shoot him.

The victims were rushed to separate hospitals for treatment.
