4 killed in shootings

Unidentifi­ed motorcycle­riding men shot dead four persons, including a barangay captain, in the past two days.

Daycarlo Millare, 39, chairman of Barangay Budac in Tayum town, and two other men were on a motorcycle on their way to Candon City, Ilocos Sur to deliver dried tobacco leaves when he was shot yesterday. His companions were unhurt.

Erik Lukang was driving his tricycle when the gunmen opened fire at Pearl Street Pleasant Ville in Barangay Ilayang Iyan in Lucena City, Quezon at around 6:30 a.m. on Friday.

Mario Vito Cruz was in Barangay Palagaran in Tiaong when he was fired at also on Friday.

Former fireman turned businessma­n Percival Malana, a resident of Barangay Camestizoa­n in Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur, was in front of a gasoline station when he was shot.

Police have yet to determine the motives for the killings.

Drug surrendere­e hurt

Meanwhile, drug surrendere­e Louren Mercado was wounded in a gun attack by suspected vigilantes on Magat Bridge in Barangay Del Pilar in Cabatuan, Isabela on Friday.

The incident was initially reported as a vehicular accident until Mercado’s gunshot wounds were discovered. He was taken to the Cabatuan Family Clinic and Hospital for treatment.

Former Army intelligen­ce officer Paul Francis Antonio, who surrendere­d under Oplan Tokhang last year, was arrested in a sting at the Marcos Stadium in Barangay 3 in Laoag, Ilocos Sur yesterday.

Police said Antonio yielded seven sachets of shabu with an estimated street value of P13,000.

Oplan Tokhang revisited

In Iloilo, 10 police chiefs have been asked to explain why they did not submit a report regarding their visits to the houses of drug suspects under Oplan Tokhang revisited.

Senior Superinten­dent Harold Tuzon, Iloilo police director, said the police chiefs of Alimodian, Concepcion, Dingle, Dumangas, Lambunao, Lemery, Maasin, Pototan and Zarraga towns and Passi City were asked to submit their explanatio­ns within three days.

Tuzon said they want to determine if drug surrendere­es underwent rehabilita­tion or continued with their illegal activities.
