UP to screen Bliss after MTRCB’s X rating

- JANVIC MATEO

After receiving an X rating from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), psychological thriller Bliss will be screened for free at the University of the Philippines Cine Adarna in Quezon City tomorrow, April 3.

Producers of the film, which premiered at the 2017 Osaka Asian Film Festival last month, said Bliss will be screened for free on a first come, first serve basis at 6:30 p.m.

“No one under 18 years of age will be admitted. Only those who provide valid ID with proof of birth shall be allowed to view the film,” said the producers.

The MTRCB earlier said that the movie received an X rating from two of the three board members of the review committee.

Director Jerrold Tarog, who also helmed Heneral Luna, said they would appeal the decision.

“We understand and respect the decision of MTRCB reviewing committee regarding the film Bliss. We are currently going through a process of submitting an appeal for a second review and hope for a more favorable result,” he said in a statement.

Iza Calzado, who won the Yakushi Pearl Award for her performance in the movie, earlier questioned the decision.

The UP Cine Adarna can screen films that received X rating as it is not under the jurisdiction of the MTRCB.
