Region’s top paratriathletes clash in ASTC tilt
Asia’s best paratriathletes gear up for a fierce battle as they vie for supremacy in the ASTC Para-Triathlon Asian Championships on April 29 inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
Organized by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) under the supervision of technical officials of the ITU and the Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC), the event has attracted close to 50 paratriathletes from Japan, Korea, Singapore, Macau, Malaysia and Khyrgyzstan.
The Philippines will be led by Sixto Ducay and blind siblings Jerome and Joshua Nelmida. The technical delegate in the race is Koji Koganezawa while Daniel Sng of Singapore is the referee.
The race, supported by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Subic Travelers Hotel, ASTC, Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines, and Gatorade, will start at 3 p.m. at the ACEA Beach Resort for the 750-m swim followed by 18-km bike stage reaching up to Argonaut Highway and the 5-km run event along San Bernardo Road en route to the finish line at ACEA.
The top three winners of the paratriathlon categories of PT1, PT2, PT3, PT4 and PT5 will earn qualifying points to the World ParaTriathlon Championships. They will also receive specially designed medals and winners’ t-shirts.
The awards rites will be held at the finish line area at 5 p.m. to be graced by Asian Triathlon Confederation president Justin Park and Philspada president Mike Barredo.
