Glitches disrupt MRT trips

- – Robertzon Ramirez

Commuters at the Metro Rail Transit were forced to walk along the elevated tracks yesterday morning after a southbound train stalled between the MRT’s Ayala and Magallanes stations.

The MRT limited its trips between the North Avenue and Shaw Boulevard stations until it could resume normal operations two hours later, at around 8:47 a.m.

Deo Manalo, MRT operations director, told The STAR the train stalled because of an electrical problem. He added that they will conduct an investigation. He estimates around 10,000 to 15,000 commuters were affected by the incident.

Meanwhile, commuters were forced to get off when another train developed a technical problem at the Ortigas station at around 10:42 a.m. Normal operations resumed before 11 a.m.

Another technical problem developed at the same station at around 12:45 p.m. but the MRT did not say when it resumed normal operations.
