Red Robins, Bullpups extend Freego Cup run

Mapua and National University dominated their respective rivals to stay unbeaten in three games in the 10th Freego Cup at the Buddhacare gym in Quezon City recently.

The Mapua Red Robins drew doubledigit outputs from five players as the reigning NCAA champions fashioned out an 86-71 victory over the La Salle Greenies.

With Will Gozum and Rhyyan Amsali at the helm, the Red Robins turned a tight contest into a rout as they exploded for 27 points in the second quarter, giving them a commanding 52-34 halftime lead.

The NU Bullpups, on the other hand, used a balanced attack to post a runaway 92-67 victory over the Lyceum Junior Pirates in the event serving as a pre-season tournament for NCAA and UAAP teams.

University of the East, meanwhile, pulled off a stunning 87-84 win over defending champion Chiang Kai Shek College to even its card to 1-1 in the event backed by Smart, Powerhouse and Home Depot.
