3 drug suspects slain in MM
Three drug suspects were killed in separate incidents in Metro Manila in the past two days.
In Quezon City, two suspected drug dealers were slain in an alleged shootout with police during a sting in Barangay Bagbag at past 3 a.m. yesterday.
Gaby Sampaga and his unidentified companion died at the scene after they allegedly engaged at least 22 members of the Quezon City Police District Drug Enforcement Unit in a firefight.
Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit chief Superintendent Rodelio Marcelo said the suspects allegedly sold P10,000 worth of shabu to a police officer who posed as a buyer.
When they sensed they were dealing with police, Sampaga and his cohort fled on a motorcycle, prompting authorities to give chase.
Instead of surrendering, the suspects allegedly opened fire, prompting police to return fire.
Police Officer 3 Patrick Bayudan was hit in the exchange of gunfire.
“But he was wearing a bulletproof vest,” Marcelo said.
Police said they recovered from the suspects a .38-caliber revolver, a 12 gauge shotgun and 50 grams of shabu worth P250,000.
In Navotas, a man said to be involved in illegal drugs and robbery was killed by unidentified assailants on Friday night.
Police identified the fatality as Umar Santos, alias Lupin, 28, of Barangay SipacAlmacen.
Probers said Santos was shot dead by three masked men at the Navotas fish port at past 7 p.m.
Police said they recovered three .45-caliber empty shells at the scene.
Authorities said Santos was stabbed by suspected members of drug ring on May 4 for his alleged failure to remit drug money. He survived the attack.
Santos had been previously detained at the Navotas jail for robbery.
Drug arrests
At least 13 drug suspects were arrested by police in separate operations in Quezon City since Thursday.
Kenneth Christopher, 20; Arsenio Santos III, 20; Jermain Jhamhel Reyes, 37; Brian Hardin, 19, and Jan Lester Bugayong, 25, were caught in an alleged pot session in Barangay Obrero at around 2 a.m. on Friday.
They allegedly yielded three sachets of shabu and drug paraphernalia.
Two construction workers were collared by police for alleged possession of shabu in in Barangay Sta. Monica. They were Sergio Macaloyos, 54, and Rancerey Canunigo, 41.
Suspected drug pushers Lazaro Legarda, 46, and Ramona Rivera, 19, were nabbed in a sting in Barangay NS Amoranto, police said.
Four more drug suspects were arrested by anti-narcotics agents in Barangay San Martin de Porres.
Jacob Importante, 20; Marlon Manansala, 19; Sonny Dancel, 21, and Wilma Andaya, 41, allegedly yielded 11 sachets of shabu, two mobile phones, drug paraphernalia and the marked money.
