The ball is now on Floyd Mayweather’s court.

This after UFC star Conor McGregor announced he has signed a contract to fight the retired Mayweather in a boxing match.

In a statement issued to TheMacLife.com, the reigning UFC lightweight champion confirmed that he has affixed his signature on the fight contract and is now waiting for Mayweather to do the same.

“It is an honor to sign this record-breaking deal alongside my partners Zuffa LLC, The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Paradigm Sports Management,” McGregor said.

No further details about the fight were revealed, other than the fact that it is now up to Mayweather to fulfill his end of the bargain.

“The first, and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on. Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await Al Haymon and his boxer’s signature in the coming days,” McGregor added.

McGregor and Mayweather had both been very vocal about fighting each other, but no real progress has been made until the MMA star’s announcement.

Curiously, McGregor’s statement came a few days after UFC president Dana White set a Sunday (next Monday Manila time) deadline for both parties to reach a deal for the fight.

“If we really do get down on that time frame, then it couldn’t possibly happen,” White told Jim Rome in the latter’s CBS radio show.

And now McGregor has started the ball rolling.
