Cop, 2 drug suspects slain

An anti-drug policeman was shot dead by an unidentifi­ed assailant in Valenzuela City on Tuesday afternoon.

Police Officer 3 Noel Cabanglan, a member of the Valenzuela police station drug enforcemen­t unit, died at the scene from gunshots to the body.

Investigat­ion showed that Cabanglan went to Barangay Ugong supposedly to meet a drug informant known only as Angelica.

Cabanglan was talking with Angelica when the assailant fired at him at around 5 p.m.

Police said they recovered 9mm bullet casings at the scene.

In Quezon City, drug suspects Augusto Riego, 45, and Mariano Cielo, 33, died after they allegedly engaged police in a firefight along Sampaguita Extension in Barangay Payatas at dawn yesterday.

They were declared dead on arrival at the East Avenue Medical Center.

Police said they conducted an operation against Riego and Cielo after receiving informatio­n that the two were allegedly pushing drugs.

Prior to the killing, a police officer who posed as a buyer allegedly managed to buy P500 worth of shabu from Riego.

Riego and Cielo were on the drug watchlist of the Batasan police.

Police said they recovered a homemade handgun, a .38-caliber revolver, nine sachets of shabu and the marked money from the suspects.

At least 13 people were arrested in separate anti-narcotics operations in the past two days.

Police said nine drug suspects were apprehende­d in drug stings in Barangays Pasong Tamo, Balon Bato, Central, San Roque and San Bartolome in Quezon City.

They were Jonjon Cayetano, 37; Garry Abela, 42; Julio Siazon, 40; Larry Ga, 42; Drian Tesorero, 32; Joseph Dacayan, 29; Evelyn Tuala; Lorenzo Abad, 24, and Joseph Ricolaos, 50.

In Manila, four persons were collared for alleged drug pushing.

Police identified the suspects as Romeo Asuncion, 54; Honor Suarez, 58, Mohammed Gagil, 30, and Anita Mahina, 55.
