Jeepney falls into ravine; 3 dead
LEGAZPI CITY – Three persons died when their jeepney fell into a 30-meter ravine in Sitio Colonia, Barangay Hidhid, Matnog, Sorsogon on Tuesday.
A report reaching Camp General Simeon Ola in this city identified the fatalities as Josefa Hilao, 78; Judy Hilao, 60, both residents of Barangay Pagtabunan, and Bermalet Alcantara, 32, of Tabaco, Albay.
Eighteen other passengers were injured and taken to the Medicare and Community Hospital and Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Initial investigation showed Joey Garalde lost control of the wheel while driving down Maharlika Highway at around 4:30 p.m.
Garalde is being held at a police station. He faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and serious physical injuries. – Cet Dematera, Celso Amo, Francis Elevado
Carpenter, wife electrocuted
ILOILO CITY – A carpenter and his wife died of electrocution in Antique on Monday, police said yesterday.
Panny Estrada, 59, was connecting an electrical wire from his home to the house of his brother in Barangay San Roque in Anini-y town when he accidentally touched a live wire. His wife Flora, 51, tried to pull him away, but she was also electrocuted.

Cop chief sacked over jailbreak
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – The police chief of San Pedro, Laguna and a jail guard were relieved from their posts yesterday following the escape of six inmates from the city jail.
Chief Superintendent MaO Aplasca, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) police director, ordered the relief of Superintendent Harold Depositar and Police Officer 2 Jobencio Piodo after the 24-hour deadline to recapture the escapees lapsed.
Only one of the escapees, Jordan Mahusay, was captured at his hideout in Barangay San Vicente yesterday.
