Pocari Sweat seeks PVL semifinals against Perlas
Games today 1 p.m. – Army vs IEM (men’s-playoff for last semis slot) 4 p.m. – Creamline vs Air Force (women’s) 6:30 p.m. – Pocari vs Perlas (women’s)
Pocari Sweat shoots for the third semifinal berth against Perlas while Creamline and Air Force try to stay in the Final Four hunt at the close of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference quarterfinal round today at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
The Lady Warriors pulled off a pair of fivesetters over the Lady Jet Spikers and the Cool Smashers and set out for a sweep of the single round quarters against the Perlas Spikers in the 6:30 p.m. main game.
In the other match, Creamline is also hardpressed to win against winless Air Force in their 4 p.m. showdown.
Fans could expect another pair of fivesetters that have marked the quarters battle of the import-laced conference of the league organized by Sports Vision and backed by Mikasa and Asics.
Pocari Sweat, meanwhile, continues to buck the absence of an import replacement as American Krystal Rivers’ ITC (International Transfer Certificate) application has yet to be initiated by the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc., according to team manager Eric Ty yesterday.
Rivers, a former US NCAA Division 1 player from University of Alabama, was tapped to replace Bosnian middle blocker Edina Selimovic, who is out with a hamstring tear. She joined Selimovic at the sidelines as the Lady Warriors survived the Cool Smashers.
Myla Pablo, who suited up for the Lady Warriors’ last two outings after sustaining a back sprain, is still being assessed on a day-today-basis if she’ll be allowed to play.
Pocari Sweat coach Rommel Abella has stressed the need for his wards to secure the win and avoid falling into a possible three-way tie at 2-1. Pocari lost to the Power Smashers in the tiebreak for the second outright semis berth.
BaliPure took the first seat in the Final Four by topping the double round elims.
