Stags turn back Chiefs, cop 5th win
Games tomorrow 3:15 p.m. – St. Benilde vs Arellano 5 p.m. – Perpetual Help vs San Beda
RK Ilagan stepped up as top gun Michael Calisaan struggled, firing 14 points to power San Sebastian to a 71-63 victory over Arellano U and close in on a quarterfinal berth in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup in San Juan yesterday.
Ilagan spiked his topscoring output with four triples at the Filoil Flying V Center as the Stags rolled to their fifth straight win after an opening game loss to move a victory away from joining Adamson (6-1) in the next round.
In the nightcap, UP edged Far Eastern U, 71-68, to improve to 4-1.
The Tams absorbed their first defeat in five outings.
Calisaan, who sizzled for 22 points in leading the Stags past the National U Bulldogs last Monday, was held to 11 markers.
Ilagan said the win was also some kind of a payback. The Chiefs fell to 1-4. Letran, meanwhile, downed University of Santo Tomas, 89-81, in overtime to nail its first win after four straight defeats.
Jerrick Balanza shot 24 points on an impressive nine-of-16 shooting before he fouled out in OT.
But Bong Quinto and JP Calvo, who finished with 20 and 10 points, respectively, took over in extension to help the Knights clinch the victory.
