Drug suspect slain in Mandaluyon­g

A 46-year-old man allegedly involved in illegal drugs was killed by an unidentifi­ed assailant in Mandaluyon­g City on Friday.

Romualdo Gorospe was drinking coffee in front of a store in Barangay Poblacion when the gunman fired at him at around 11:30 a.m., according to a report from the Eastern Police District.

Gorospe died at the scene from multiple gunshots to the body.

The assailant fled after the killing.

Probers said Gorospe was on the drug watchlist.

In Quezon City, a drug suspect was wounded after he accidental­ly shot himself during an alleged gun scuffle with a policeman on Friday night.

Rolly Garay, 21, was taken to the Quezon City General Hospital for treatment.

Chief Superinten­dent Guillermo Eleazar, director of the Quezon City Police District, said police officers stopped Garay and his companion on a motorcycle at a checkpoint in Barangay Sauyo at around 9 p.m.

Eleazar said Garay got off the motorcycle and grabbed the gun of one of the policemen.

During the scuffle, the firearm went off, hitting Garay in the process.

Police said they recovered three sachets of shabu from Garay.

His companion managed to escape.

Garay is being held by police on charges of violating Republic Act 9165, the Comprehens­ive Dangerous Drugs Act.

6 fall in drug stings

Police have arrested six drug suspects in separate stings in Quezon City since Thursday.

Two of the suspects were identified as Adrian Gerona, 39, and Raff Quiroga, 30.

Gerona allegedly yieled P50,000 worth of shabu during an anti-narcotics operation in Barangay Bahay Toro.

Quiroga was apprehende­d in a drug sting at the corner of Regalado and Dahlia Avenues in Barangay Greater Fairview.

Police said four other suspects were collared in anti-drug operations in Barangays Loyola Heights, Central and Damayang Lagi.

Meanwhile, a woman was gunned down by three motorcycle-riding men at her house in Barangay Maybunga, Pasig City on Friday.

Police identified the fatality as Ma. Edna Rivera, 56.

Rivera was having lunch when the assailants broke into her house and opened fire, police said.

Rivera died on the spot from gunshots to the body.
