June Mar on Josh: He’s so big, heavy

- – Nelson Beltran

San Miguel Beer prized behemoth June Mar Fajardo is almost equal in height with Josh Smith but lighter in weight than the bulky TNT import.

Yancy de Ocampo is even lighter and less tougher.

Fajardo thinks a double-teaming defense can ease the load against Smith – a key matchup in the TNT KaTropaSan Miguel Beer slugfest.

“He’s so big, so heavy,” said Fajardo, against whom Smith made the winning baby hook in their 104-102 squeaker in Game One.

“I think we need to double team on him. I think we need to be given a defensive help. But let’s see. I’m sure coach Leo (Austria) will make the necessary adjustments,” said Fajardo.

Smith collected 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting. He made his shots mostly on sealing his defender before dribbling twice or thrice to the basket then launching lethal hooks. “He’s good at that,” said Fajardo. His handicap was a sore foot that limited him to 26 minutes of intermittent actions.

SMB import Charles Rhodes fared well with 31 points that went with 13 rebounds, four assists and one steal.

The SMB mentor believed he could’ve done a lot more if not for early fouls.

“Masyadong manipis (It’s so thin) but that’s how the refs are calling it. He must be careful as we need him at the post,” said Austria.

“We had a problem as he got into foul trouble. You see he’s able to play only 12 to 14 minutes in the second half,” Austria added.
