Luceat lux!
My alma mater, Xavier School, recently held its alumni association’s 28th induction and turnover ceremonies for its board of trustees at the school’s Angelo King Center in San Juan City. (Xavier School’s motto is “Luceat lux,” or “Let your light shine.”)
The gathering was reportedly the most well-attended induction affair in the Alumni Association of Xavier School’s (AAXS’s) 57-year history with around 400 guests that included prominent alumni from the political, business and social circles.
Also seen gracing the affair were officers and representatives from the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Alumni Associations, the Immaculate Conception Academy Alumnae Association, the Anvil Business Club and the Junior Chamber International Philippines, among others.
Led by businessman Reginald Yu (‘84), as AAXS president, the predominantly young set of the 15-member board of trustees was formally sworn in by Xavier School president Fr. Aristotle Dy, S.J. JG Summit Holdings president and chief operating officer
Lance Gokongwei (‘83) served as the evening’s guest of honor. Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito (‘87) was the keynote speaker during the event while San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez graced the inauguration ceremonies as a special guest. The event was emceed by Gretchen Ho and Anthony Ferdinand Yu (‘87).
The ceremonies ushered in a dynamic set of leaders for the alumni association. With an encouraging response from the many alumni who witnessed the new board’s first major undertaking, the event was seen to be an auspicious portent of things to come for the next two years. Luceat lux!
