Former bet now heads Mutya search

The Mutya ng Pilipinas, Inc. (MPI) Board of Directors has tapped 2005 Mutya Ng Pilipinas Top 10 finalist/2014 Miss Global City Asia/2014 Mrs. Universe Philippine­s Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo as its new head.

“I’m excited to lead the organizati­on that I’ve been with for the past decade,” said Hemilyn. “I want to be a part of the Mutya history as it celebrates its golden anniversar­y next year.”

Hemilyn is highly qualified for the position. She took up Financial Management Program at Collin County Community College in Texas, USA. She has worked either as president, vice president or consultant in various companies. In 2015, she was awarded Most Outstandin­g Image Consultant by Dangal ng Bayan. Hemilyn is the PR consultant of the family-owned Perpetual Help Medical Center in Las Piñas City.

“Sharing is caring,” said Hemilyn who founded Sagip Anghel Associatio­n (SAA), with Queen Without Scars Philippine­s (QWSP) as her other brainchild. “It’s my advocacy to save the angels (abandoned fetuses) and help share love with them.” For that, she was given an Asian Achiever for Humanitari­an Service Award in 2014.

Currently finishing her Doctor of Philosophy and Masters in Organizati­onal Developmen­t at South East Asian Interdisci­plinary Institute, Hemilyn said, “I thank all the men and women behind MPI, my family, friends and colleagues for the trust, confidence and support.”

Incidental­ly, Ilene Astrid De Vera, a BA Masscom graduate from UP Cebu, was voted Darling of the Press among the 30 “beauty tourism” advocates from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, Manila and overseas Filipino communitie­s during the press presentati­on last July 20 in Hotel 101, Pasay City (the official residence). It was during the event when Jacqueline Tan-Sainz turned over the MPI presidency to Hemilyn.

The Swimsuit Competitio­n was staged at Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte July 21-23) and Designer’s Competitio­n/Regional Costume at The Plaza, Resorts World Manila yesterday). Long Gown Competitio­n at Alta D’Tagaytay is set for July 28 and the grand coronation night at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila on Aug. 4 (televised over ABS-CBN on Aug. 6 at 10 a.m.).
