- By rey galupo

A drug suspect reportedly died after jumping from the third floor of an abandoned building to avoid arrest while four others were killed in separate operations in Metro Manila over the weekend.

In Navotas City, Arceo Naval, 58, died after he jumped from the building on Saturday night.

Anti-narcotics operatives said they conducted an operation along Tanza street in Barangay Sto. Niño after receiving information about illegal drugs deals in the area at around 9 p.m.

Probers said Naval and his two companions tried to escape, but they were cornered by police.

Instead of surrendering, Naval allegedly jumped from the building, causing his instant death.

His two companions turned themselves in to authorities.

Drugs eyed in couple’s ambush

In Caloocan City, police are looking into illegal drugs as a possible motive in the ambush of a couple on Saturday.

Glenn Bernardo, 35, was killed in the attack. His wife, Maricar, 28, was wounded and taken to the Manila Central University Hospital for treatment.

Reports said the couple had just stepped out of a pizza parlor at the corner of EDSA and Boni Serrano street in Barangay 86 when they were ambushed at past 9 p.m.

Witnesses said the Bernardos were about to ride their car – a Toyota Corolla with license plates AAQ1284 – when six unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire.

A police official, who refused to be identified, said the Bernardos were linked to illegal drug trade in the city.

In Manila, three men died after they allegedly engaged police in a shootout during a drug sting in Tondo on Saturday.

Probers identified the fatalities as Leonardo de la Cruz and his cousins Rodrigo Albos and Reynaldo de la Cruz, all of Sandico street in Tondo.

They were declared dead on arrival from gunshots to the bodies at the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center.

Police Officer 3 Jansen San Pedro of the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 2 said they recovered a hand grenade, two .38-caliber revolvers and 13 sachets of shabu from the suspects.

The three were on the drug watchlist of the MPD, San Pedro said.
