ABS-CBN offers free TFC subscriptions in Canada
Media and entertainment company ABS-CBN Corp. is providing free premium subscription to TFC.tv in Canada for those who purchased set-top boxes with unauthorized access to ABS-CBN’s copyrighted movies and TV shows.
In a statement, ABS-CBN said it is offering these individuals free premium subscription to TFC.tv for one month.
TFC.tv is the only official ABS-CBN online and mobile on-demand viewing platform outside of the Philippines for ABS-CBN’s teleseryes, as well as Filipino blockbuster films and news.
Earlier this month, ABS-CBN filed a lawsuit against Techspeed Canada Inc., as well as Joe Baddas, Ferdinand Molina and Todd Ross before the Canadian Federal Court for damages of over $5 million for copyright and trademark infringement, and enabling and inducing copyright infringement of ABS-CBN’s copyrighted works.
Techspeed Canada and the three individuals sold settop boxes which gave buyers access to ABS-CBN’s copyrighted movies and TV shows.
Elisha Lawrence, assistant vice president and head of Global Anti-Piracy AVP at ABS-CBN, said Techspeed Canada and the three individuals took advantage of TFC.tv by registering over 78 emails and distributing the usernames and passwords to hundreds of customers.
“These customers were participating in this illegal activity by paying the Techspeed group and giving access to their credit card information,” she said.
David Lipkus, counsel for ABS-CBN in Canada said the firm would continue to take all necessary steps to control access to its content.
“ABS-CBN invests tremendous resources into its highquality, original content, and will continue to ensure that Canadians have access to legitimate ABS-CBN content directly from ABS-CBN,” he said.
To avail of the one-month free premium subscription, customers need to call the toll-free number 1-855-TFC-CNDA on or before Sept. 15.
ABS-CBN said its customer service team would assist callers through the process.
The free access to TFC.tv will not require evidence of previous subscription.
