Vilma, Nora reunited
In a rare historic moment, Superstar Nora Aunor and The Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos, shared the spotlight to receive a Special Lifetime Achievement Award dubbed as Ginintuang Bituin Ng Pelikulang Pilipino conferred by the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) during the 33rd Star Awards for Movies 2017.
Held last Sept. 3 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila, the PMPC gave tribute to the country’s movie icons for their great achievements and contributions in the movie industry spanning five decades — Vilma for 54 years and Nora, 50 years.
Joining in the tribute for the movie queens were Christopher de Leon and Cesar Montano who were among the favorite leading men of both Vilma and Nora.
Fans of Nora and Vilma came in full force and showed support by shouting for their idols. The two groups supporting Nora and Vilma tried to outdo each other in terms of loudness and volume, reminiscent of their younger days. It ended well for both camps when the two also shared the Best Actress plum — Nora for Kabisera and Vilma for Everything About Her.
Pen Medina and Joel Lamangan were both emotional when they received the special awards: Nora Aunor Ulirang Artista Lifetime Achievement Award and Ulirang Alagad Ng Pelikula Sa Likod Ng Kamera, respectively.
Chosen as the Darling of the Press was TV host Luis Manzano.
The Best Actor award went to Daniel Padilla for the movie Barcelona: A Love Untold.
“Hindi ibig sabihin ng award na ito na magaling ako. Ibig sabihin nito na marami pa akong kakaining bigas para galingan ko pa,” the Kapamilya actor said who also accepted the trophy for Movie Love Team of the Year (KathNiel) courtesy of the same movie.
Serving as the hosts that night were Aljur Abrenica, Yassi Pressman, Daniel Matsunaga, Alex Gonzaga and Robi Domingo.
Christian Bautista and Isay Alvarez performed in the opening number while the trio of Sam Concepcion, Edgar Allan Guzman and Darren Espanto did a sing-and-dance number of Bruno Mars medley. A mix of powerful and sexy dance routine were done by Jon Lucas, Maris Racal, Sofia Andres, Grae Fernandez, Zeus Collins and Ciara Sotto on the pole.
