Teachers to get higher honoraria for election duties
When the next election comes, teachers and people who will serve in the electoral board can look forward to getting higher honoraria and other benefits.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec), in a resolution, ordered the increase in compensation from P4,000 to P6,000 for the chairperson and from P4,000 to P5,000 for board members.
It also set the honoraria for the Department of Education Supervisor Officials (DESO) at P4,000 from P3,000 in the last elections.
For support staff members, the Comelec raised the honoraria by P500 to P2,000.
The Comelec also doubled to P1,000 the travel allowance of chairpersons and members and granted same benefit to the DESO and their respective support staff.
Previously, only the chairpersons and members of the electoral boards were entitled to transportation allowances.
The poll body also decided to give teachers who serve during elections duties higher death benefits and medical assistance. Heirs of those who died while on duty will receive P500,000—a significant increase from the previous P200,000 in death benefits.
For injuries or illness suffered while doing election duties, a teacher can also get a maximum of P200,000 as medical assistance.
In the past, the Comelec set aside a total amount of P30 million for the compensation of those who may suffer injury or sickness sustained in the performance of election duties.
