AirAsia launches Freedom Flyer program

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia-Low-cost carrier AirAsia is eyeing to give travelers more opportunities to fly across the region with its overhauled Freedom Flyer program.

The loyalty program allows members to earn AirAsia BIG points, which can be redeemed for flights at lower costs.

It is based on a unique membership status system determined by how often guests fly.

“The more guests fly with AirAsia, the faster they will earn BIG points, regardless of how much they spend on fares,” AirAsia said.

Members of the program will be classified under a four-status system based on their number of AirAsia flights within the past 12 months.

“The four-status system starts with Red status for guests who fly 13 or fewer one-way short haul flights in the preceeding 12 months, through to Gold(14 to 23 one-way flights) and Platinum ( 24 to 49 one way flights), and all the way to black for those who fly 50 times or more with AirAsia,” the low-cost carrier said.

For every 10 ringgits spent, Red members can earn up to 20 BIG points, Gold up to 40, Platinum up to 70 and Black up to 120.

AirAsia said the long-haul and fly-thru flights are counted as two-way short-haul flights.

“BIG points can be used to redeem all flights on AirAsia for a minium of 500 BIG points,” AirAsia said.

Among the seats available for redemption are from the final call sale, which are selected seats for travel in the next 60 days that are priced at up to 90 percent discount from prevailing market fares.

The loyalty program also offers flights from its BIG fixed points program, which allows members to exchange points for flights.

These are selected seats for travel up to the next 365 days, which represent up to 70 percent of the prevailing market fares.

The fixed point redemption offers one-way seats for flights that range from one hour to over eight hours in exchange for 4500 BIG points to 45,000 BIG points.
