SteelAsia on track to lead growth of steel industry

-

SteelAsia, today’s largest rebar manufacturer, is committed to help make the country’s industrialization agenda a reality.

With state-of-the-art steel manufacturing facilities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao (five facilities in all), the company supplies the country with some 2.4 million tons of rebar annually.

SteelAsia provides its customer base, ranging from the biggest developers to select resellers, with rebar that surpasses globally accepted benchmarks for quality, efficiency, environmental impact mitigation, and occupational health and safety.

Today, SteelAsia is aware that the steel industry needs to substitute imports with domestically manufactured steel products and integrate these both upstream and downstream. This will ensure that value and jobs are preserved and nurtured in the country, benefiting Filipinos and the Philippine economy.

While SteelAsia’s rebar capacity is set to double by 2018, the company is also diversifying its product portfolio by building mills that produce steel products that are inputs for industries other than construction.

These products, currently 100 percent imported – wire-rod, sections and profiles, medium sections and plates – will feed local SMEs, allowing them to be more competitive and grow in scale and diversity.

Downstream, there are potentially dozens of industries that may benefit and hundreds of thousands of jobs to be created.

The prospects of a vibrant and competitive Philippine manufacturing sector are certainly bright with SteelAsia’s continued investments and contribution to rebuilding the nation’s industrial base.
