2 cops nabbed for extortion

- – Emmanuel Tupas

Two policemen were arrested in an entrapment operation in Pasay City on Thursday for allegedly extorting money from a man they accused of rape.

Operatives from the Counter-Intelligence Task Force caught Police Officer 1 Leomer Suarez, 28, and PO1 Allan Cabanero, 35, both assigned at the National Capital Region Police Office, at a fastfood restaurant at the corner of EDSA and Taft Avenue at around 9 p.m., CITF chief Senior Superintendent Jose Chiquito Malayo said.

Suarez was just reinstated after being absent without leave since December 2014 while Madrigal has been AWOL since August the same year and is appealing for his reinstatement. Both entered the police service in 2012.

Malayo, in a text message, said the policemen threatened to file rape charges against the complainant if he does not pay P200,000.

The victim told police he was accused by their female board mate of molesting her on Aug. 18 after a drinking session.

It was reduced to P50,000 after the complainant pleaded he could not afford the amount. The policemen then forced him to write a promissory note that he will pay P10,000 a month until he is fully paid.
