Ayala Corp.’s subsidiaries Manila Water Co. Inc. and AC Energy entered into a retail electricity supply agreement as part of efforts to ensure a more efficient service connection to the east zone.

The agreement covers the two-year supply of electricity to five Manila Water facilities currently enrolled under Retail Competition and Open Access, which the water company considers as the best offer among a host of retail electricity supply providers.

“Our customers will benefit from lower power cost and ensures continuous power supply to five of Manila Water’s largest facilities for the next two years,” Manila Water president and chief executive officer Ferdinand dela Cruz said.

The pumping station facilities are located in Balara in Quezon City, San Juan, Kingsville and Siruna in Antipolo, and Fort Bonifacio in Taguig.

The five pumping station facilities have an aggregate monthly demand of 8.5 megawatts (MW).

“This contract will allow us to run our facilities efficiently and ultimately, serve our water and used water customers well,” Dela Cruz said.

“By providing electricity supply to their pumping stations at a lower cost, we share in Manila Water’s drive to double its commitment to provide better service to the communities,” AC Energy Retail head Miguel de Jesus said.

Since the grant of its retail electricity supply license in September 2016 by the Energy Regulatory Commission, AC Energy Retail has been increasing its customer portfolio, coming closer to its goal of attaining 100MW of contestable customers by yearend.

Manila Water caters to the east zone which encompasses parts of Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, most parts of Quezon City, portions of Manila, as well as several towns in Rizal.
