Multi-awarded school receives new building

-

LEMERY, Batangas — Lemery Pilot Elementary School has distinguished itself from other state primary schools in that it had produced multiawarded faculty, principal, students in various subjects throughout the years, which resulted in its being the first choice by the Department of Education (DepEd) in piloting new programs and curricula for introduction nationwide.

It is the top performing school nationwide while its principal has been awarded the Most Outstanding Principal in the elementary level.

The school has likewise excelled in Science Quest, a hall of famer in the Brigada Escuela project.

To support the school’s endeavors to provide quality education to children within the community, SM Prime through the SM Foundation donated a twostory four-classroom schoolbuilding last Sept. 15.

On hand to receive the new building from SM Foundation executive director Debbie Sy were top officials of the school led by school principal Ma. Teresa Caringal and assistant schools division superintendent Hermogenes Panganiban, representing DepEd.

It is SM Prime Holdings and SM Foundation’s second disable-friendly public school so far erected (the first one in Ormoc City) and will be used by Grade 5 students. It has ramps for people with disabilities leading to toilet on the ground floor as most PWDs are asked to stay only on the ground floor.

As with most other SM donated school buildings, the donation comes fully furnished with wall fans, desks and teacher’s table, blackboards, cabinets for books, desks for left-handed pupils, and a toilet per classroom, unlike schools built years ago which only had a room of four toilet-cubicles on each wing.

The armchairs and tables were supplied by the Foundation of the These-Abled, a PWD group supported by SM Foundation.

“We just don’t donate but we build their self-pride and self-esteem with the chairs made by the disabled,” Sy said.

As with most of its donations—even though it is not stipulated in the memorandum of understanding or the deed of donation—we do maintenance work for the buildings that we donate so that they won’t go to waste after several years, Sy said.
