Ex-lawmaker gets death threat

- – Emmanuel Tupas

Former speaker Prospero Nograles allegedly received a threatening note on Thursday that prompted his security escort to report the incident to the police.

Nograles’ escort, Frolian Ebardo Jr., 42, reported the incident to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Friday. Records show Ebardo is a member of the Police Security and Protection Group based in Camp Crame.

An entry in the police blotter said the incident happened at the parking area of a restaurant in Barangay Old Balara at around 9 a.m.

Ebardo told the duty desk officer he and Nograles left the restaurant and was about to board the former congressman’s Toyota Alphard when they noticed a white envelope placed on the minivan’s wiper.

When Ebardo opened the envelope, they saw a 9mm bullet and a note written in Filipino: “Boss Nog mag ingat ka sa mga pinaggagawa mo at ng mga anak mo, baka mapasubo ka at pamilya mo. Hindi nyo na alam mga pinapasok nyo. Kung ako sayo lumayo nalang kayo at manahimik.”

The note warned that the Nograleses do not know what they are getting into and that they should simply leave and let things be.

Ebardo went to the police the following day to report the incident.

The former speaker’s son, Karlo Alexei Nograles, is the incumbent representative of the first district of Davao City.
