Building wealth, one eyebrow at a time

Establishing a business is one of the most decisive — yet risky — decisions that a person can make in life. Financial success awaits those who are daring enough to enter the fray but the path to get there isn’t easy.

Take the example of entrepreneur Jane Pecson, the woman behind Fleek Eyebrow and Beauty Clinic. Fresh out of Miriam College in 2009 where she finished Communication Arts, Jane’s dreams for success could not keep her in a regular day job.

Leaving the comforts of an office, Jane took on the role of an entrepreneur where she went into various businesses with varying degrees of success. She imported clothes from China and Thailand and sold them at her shop in Galleria. Business was good, and she even guested as a fashion stylist several times in TV shows. However, the influx of economical international name brands saw the decline for small boutique shops like hers.

Undeterred, Jane moved into importing gadgets and fashion accessories. She would even stay overnight at the airport carrying her heavy wares. With her fashion taste, Jane’s business was initially successful. But everyone else in the same business took notice of this and started copying her product selections every time. So she decided to move on to selling customized leather wallets at bazaars.

Then, in May 2016, Jane chanced upon an opportunity. Tired of working on her eyebrows everyday, she stumbled upon a feature showing how Koreans achieved a natural look for their eyebrows that lasted for up to two years with just a single procedure. Her business instinct kicked in immediately. A quick industry survey showed a need in the market for a professional onestop clinic offering semi-permanent eyebrows, together with a complete range of semi-permanent makeup. The idea behind Fleek Eyebrow and Beauty Clinic was born.

At first, she started trying out techniques at a bed in a friend’s house before moving her services to a shared office. After hours of hard work and perseverance, Jane was able to open the first Fleek Eyebrow and Beauty Clinic in Ortigas. In just a year, this pioneer branch shortly grew to five clinics in and around Manila and Cebu and has become the premiere clinic for semipermanent makeup in the Philippines. In just a short while, Fleek Eyebrow and Beauty Clinic is well poised to become the next big thing in the beauty industry.

Fleek’s primary services revolve around semi-permanent makeup and beauty treatments using the latest available industry technologies. Their most-popular brow service is called Feather Brows, which gives an illusion of hair strands to make eyebrows look naturally full and perfectly shaped; and the Bold Brows, which has a more made up look that allows women to “wake up with makeup.” Also available is Permaglow that gives a light naturally looking face foundation that lasts for months; Permalash, a semi-permanent mascara good for up to six months; and Winkliner, an eyeliner that stays on for years.

Other beauty treatments include Nanotechnology, that provides painless permanent hair removal; Revlite Treatment for perfect skin; Pico Tech, a new standard in skin whitening, skin blemish, and tattoo removal; and Ultherapy that gives a non-surgical guaranteed facelift that will last for a year. With all these services, Fleek Eyebrow and Beauty Clinic truly has come a long way since its establishment one year ago.

Ambitions remain as dreams and opportunities are wasted without hard work. With a bright future ahead, Jane aims to open five more branches next year, proving that single-minded hard work and determination is the cornerstone of a successful financial journey.
