Soldier shoots wife dead, kills self

LAGUNA – An Army soldier reportedly shot his wife dead before killing himself at their home in Barangay Tuntunghin Putho, Los Baños City here on Saturday afternoon.

Relatives found the bodies of Sgt. Pedro Talandron and his wife Rowena at around 2:30 p.m., according to Senior Superinten­dent Cecilio Ison, Laguna police director.

Investigat­ors recovered two bullet shells for a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Neighbors told police they heard the couple quarrellin­g before the gunshots rang out.

Probers are eyeing jealousy as the motive for the killing.

Ex-soldier shot dead

Meanwhile, in Cagayan, a retired Army soldier was reportedly shot dead by his drinking buddy during a birthday party in Lal-lo town on Saturday.

Dalmacio Asuncion, 55, of Barangay Dugo, Camalaniug­an town, was declared dead on arrival at the Matilde Olivas District Hospital due to a gunshot to the head.

Asuncion and another guest, identified as James Dorado, 44, were having a drinking session at the birthday party of Rommel Batacan in Barangay Bagumbayan.

A quarrel broke out between Asuncion and Dorado, prompting the latter to reportedly pull out a gun and shoot the victim.

Police have launched a manhunt for Dorado, who fled after the shooting.
