2 Chinese face raps for countryman’s kidnap

- – Emmanuel Tupas

Two Chinese were charged on Tuesday for allegedly kidnapping a fellow Chinese on Sunday over the victim’s gambling debts.

The police Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) filed charges of serious illegal detention against Yang Yong Gang, 33, and Dai Chensi, 28, before the Department of Justice.

However, the victim identified as Yang Chang submitted an affidavit of desistance with an urgent request for the dismissal of the case, AKG spokesman Superintendent Abelardo Borromeo said.

Records showed Yang arrived in the country last July 21 as a tourist and repeatedly extended his visa.

Yang repeatedly lost while playing in the Solaire Resorts and Casino Hotel’s mass gaming area over the weekend, according to the complaint filed by AKG Luzon Field Office head Superintendent Arthur Masungsong.

Yang was approached by a casino player who introduced himself as Tu Hu, who offered him P500,000 worth of casino chips but told him to pay his debt within three days.

When Yang lost again and was unable to pay, the suspects booked him a room in the hotel at around 6 p.m. Sunday then transferred him to another room until the AKG rescued him at around 5 p.m. Monday.

Yang had been able to send an email message to the Chinese embassy, unknown to his captors. The embassy notified the AKG.

He said the suspects took his Cartier wristwatch worth P300,000.

The AKG coordinated with Solaire’s management for Yang’s rescue. Police officers caught the suspects guarding Yang.
