Lions aim for semis incentive vs chiefs

Games today 12 noon – CSB vs Mapua (jrs) 2 p.m. – CSB vs Mapua (srs) 4 p.m. – San Beda vs AU (srs) 6 p.m. – San Beda vs AU (jrs)

San Beda shoots for the other twiceto-beat advantage in the Final Four while Arellano U tries to stay in the semis hunt as they collide today in the 93rd NCAA seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Assured of a berth in the post-elims play following a 65-60 win over the Jose Rizal Bombers last Friday, the Lions go for their 13th win in 14 games against the Chiefs at 4 p.m. with another victory netting them the huge semis incentive. Focus will be on Davon Potts, who stepped up in the clutch to carry the Lions past the Bombers. He poured in 14 points in the fourth quarter, including a pair of triples.

“Credit that to his work ethic,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez on his prized ward who is set to join this year’s PBA rookie draft.

But the Chiefs are also coming off an 84-79 triumph over the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals also last Friday that kept the last year’s runners-up in the race with a 5-8 record.

Unbeaten Lyceum of the Philippines University took the first semis seat and the twice-to-beat incentive with a sweep of 14 games but the two other Final Four seats remain up for grabs among JRU and San Sebastian, who tote identical 7-6 slates, Letran (7-7), EAC (6-8) and Arellano.
