Bangus Specialty Restaurant celebrates 35th anniversar­y

Bangus Specialty Restaurant, which specialize­s in traditiona­l Filipino cuisine, celebrates its 35th year.

Conceived by the De Mesa sisters of Guagua, Pampanga — of the Takayama Garden Restaurant and Ima Restaurant fame — Bangus Specialty Restaurant promotes Pinoy food not only to locals but foreigners as well.

Its first branch at Greenhills Shopping Center’s Crossroad Arcade features ventanilla­s, balusters and capiz windows on its mezzanine floor. It was where the Chicharon Balat ng Bangus and Bangus Sashimi were introduced. It was also there that the Green Mango Shake was invented due to the unavailabi­lity of ripe mangoes. Many of its customers who have migrated or worked abroad would also come and visit the restaurant every time they come home to the Philippine­s.

Popular dishes include the Bangus Prime-Cut (belly) Sinigang, Bangus Molo

Soup, Kare-kareng Bangus, Lumpiang Bangus, Bangus Sisig, Bangus a la Pobre, Pinalutong na Bangus at Ensaladang Mangga. They are also known for their non-bangus dishes including Rellenong Manok, Kare-kareng Buntot ng Baka, Hipon sa Aligi, Sisig and the Crispy Pata, which made it to Spot.ph Top Ten Crispy Pata. The restaurant also serves Busog Breakfast Meals like tinapang bangus, paksiw na

bangus, longganisa, tocino, Crispy Tinapang Bangus Flakes, bangus tinapa fried to a crisp; the Bangus Belly Sardines in Oil, prime cut bangus cooked lightly in oil with special spices; and the Spicy Bangus Belly Sardines in Tomato Sauce, bangus fish belly in a piquant sauce. All Busog Breakfast Meals are served with garlic rice, fried egg, turon na saging and overflowin­g coffee.

Also try the Inihaw sa Bilao, which consists of assorted grilled dishes (good for three to four); The Lambingan sa Bangka, Kaing Yaman and Kaing Grande, set meals good for two, four, six, eight and 10 persons, respective­ly. Desserts include Piniritong Leche Flan with Dayap dip, the Turong Ginataan, the Mestisong Halo-halo, Guinomis and tibok-tibok. On its 35th year, Bangus Specialty Restaurant offers 35 percent off on its “Dishes of the Month” until October.
