Bato to supervise retraining of sacked Caloocan cops

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa will personally oversee the 30-day retraining of 1,143 sacked Caloocan policemen starting today, an official said yesterday.

Dela Rosa wants to talk with the lawmen before they proceed with their classes on ethics and values formation, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Oscar Albayalde said.

“The PNP chief wanted to be around to supervise their first day of training and encourage them to be true to their oath of public service,” Albayalde said.

The NCRPO chief relieved the entire Caloocan police force following the killings of 17-year-old Kian Loyd delos Santos and former University of the Philippines student Carl Angelo Arnaiz as well as the robbery at the house of a 51-year-old woman, which was caught on closed-circuit television camera.

The relieved Caloocan policemen were replaced by personnel from the Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela police; Manila and Quezon City Police Districts, and the NCRPO’s regional public safety battalion.

Albayalde wanted a 45-day retraining for the sacked policemen but Dela Rosa shortened it to 30 days.

The training will be held at the NCRPO headquarters at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig.

Albayalde said policemen who would fail to report today would face administrative sanctions.

He said those rendering court duty, sick or confined in a hospital are excused.

Policemen who will be marked absent for three straight days would be listed as absent without official leave, while those incurring a month of absence will be dropped from the PNP rolls and their bonuses forfeited.
