Kim: I’m not a singer but an entertainer

- By BOT GLORIOSO

Instead of Kim Chiu inviting The STAR and other select members of the entertainment press to watch the music video of her latest album Chinita

Princess: Touch of Your Love, she ascended the stage holding a mic and proceeded to perform live two of the songs in the album.

The album’s carrier single, Okay na Ako, will make you groove to its vibrant beat while completely understanding and feeling its message of love. Through her “sampler,” Kim succeeded in rubbing off on everyone a jolly mood. Small wonder, everyone was convinced that her new album would be another hit just like her previous one that carried the popular and LSS-inducing Mr.

Right, especially the line, Ikaw na ba si Mr. Right? Ikaw na ba love of my life? Ikaw na ba ang icing sa ibabaw ng cupcake ko?

Touch of Your Love, Kim assured, has nothing but good vibes. Star Music exec Rox Santos said the Chinita Princess personally selected the five original tracks from the 15 love songs that were presented to her. Apart from Okay na Ako, also included in the lineup are Wag Kang Makulit, Ipadarama, Katok and ’Yun Na, You Na. “I love songs that express delight because I am a happy person so I like to spread good vibes through songs. Here (in the album), the songs are about different kinds of love like something on having a crush, on hoping to be loved in return and on finding the one meant for you.”

Thankfully, all the five songs indubitably complement the timbre of her voice. “Probably, I’ve matured already and attending voice lessons really helped. Besides, it would be a shame if I can’t sing live considering this is already my third album.”

She continued, “I admit I am not a singer but I am proud to say that I’m an entertainer. I want to entertain people with my voice and thankfully, there are songs that match my tone.”

The Kapamilya talent is no longer dreaming for the day to come when she can hit the high notes. But she looks forward to performing R&B in the future since she believes that a song should fit well into the voice quality of a singer. “Actually, Kim did Ipadarama which is R&B, parang may pagka BoyzIIMen ang effect at kaya naman ng boses n’ya. She can do R&B, we just have to choose the right songs,” Rox said.

Besides, Kim is aware that her voice is far from that of Regine Velasquez’s who is known for belting out birit tunes. “What’s good, ASAP (the ABSCBN Sunday afternoon variety show) serves as a platform to hone my (ability in) singing, dancing and hosting. ASAP helps boost my self-confidence.

Pero gusto ko ng R&B kasi kalma lang pero nandun ’yung beat.” (Chinita Princess: Touch of Your Love is now available in record outlets nationwide. The single Okay na Ako is also available in digital stores.)
