riverbanks center’s dragon boat festival set oct.8

-

Riverbanks Center in Marikina presents 10 teams in a mixed 22-man standard competition, to race against each other for Dragon Boat Festival’s Regatta in Marikina on Oct. 8.

The atmosphere will be electrifying and the crowd is sure to brim with energy, as they cheer on 10 boats slicing their way through the waters of Marikina River, head to head with other paddlers furiously powering their way on the horizon.

Prepare to be awed by the masterful display of human power and synchrony as arms move as one, as the blades hit the water to the rhythm of each boat’s drum. The drummer at the bow directs the boat’s speed; the steersman at the stern keeps it in line; and the paddlers keep the boat moving until the finish line.

From the long and narrow boat shapes to the prows painted with dragons’ heads to the drums which set the pace for the rowers, its vigorous action and the thumping drumbeats are major ingredients that make the Dragon Boat Festival an exciting event.

This action-packed day of racing on October 8 at Riverbanks Center’s Amphitheater will happen from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Officiated by The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF), Regatta in Marikina will surely be a fun and exciting event for the whole family.
