The Konrad-Adenauer -Stiftung: Strengthening German-Philippine ties for 53 years and beyond
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is one of the four German political foundations in the Philippines. It is closely associated with, but independent from, the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). It established its first office in Asia in 1964 here in Manila.
The KAS has been actively working in the Philippines under the principles of freedom, justice and solidarity. The KAS Philippines office aims to develop programs that help strengthen the democratic institutions and procedures in the country. The foundation strongly considers the distinctive human dignity, rights and responsibilities of people at the heart of their work. Thus, they are guided by the conviction that human beings are the starting point in the effort to bring about social justice and democratic freedom while promoting sustainable economic activity. By bringing people together who embrace their responsibilities in society, the KAS develops active networks in the political and economic spheres as well as in society itself. The guidance they provide on the basis of their political know-how and knowledge helps to shape the globalization process along more socially equitable, ecologically sustainable and economically efficient lines.
The main activities of the KAS in the Philippines have focused on Institutional and Political Reform, Social Market Economy, and Peace and Development in Mindanao. They cooperate with government institutions, political parties, and civil society organizations and decisionmakers, building strong partnerships along the way. In particular, they seek to intensify political cooperation in the area of development cooperation at the national and international levels on the foundations of their objectives and values. Together with their local partners, they hope to contribute to the creation of an environment that enables every country to develop in freedom and under its own responsibility.
