PNP: PSG man owned gun in fatal shooting

- Ghio Ong

The pistol found in the room where a member of the Presidential Security Group was found dead in Malacañang last month is his own, Philippine National Police (PNP) records show.

A document issued by the PNP’s Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO) last Thursday showed Army Maj. Harim Gonzaga owned the Norin NP44 2T .45 caliber pistol found under the bed.

The license for the pistol was approved on Nov. 16, 2009 and expired on Aug. 26, 2013, according to FEO records.

Gonzaga, who may have shot himself in the chest, was found in the PSG barracks by his widow, Sheila, also with the PSG, on the morning of Sept. 26.

The FEO issued the document upon the request of Senior Police Officer 3 Jonathan Bautista, who is investigating Gonzaga’s death.

He died from a “lone gunshot wound in the middle of the chest particularly on the left side, with tattooing (which was) an indication that shot was made closer to the body,” the police report said.

“No sign of disarray and struggle was noted in the premises, so as the personal belongings of the victim were all intact,” the report added.

Police have yet to reach out to Sheila to shed light on her husband’s death. –
