Ex-pros Rob Wainwright and Gilbert Malabanan dished out double-double games as Bureau of Fire Protection snapped Armed Forces of the Philippines’ three-game win run, 104-97, to bolster its bid in the sixth UNTV Cup at the Pasig City Sports Center last weekend.

Wainwright, who played for six PBA teams in an 11-year pro career, tallied 19 points and 13 boards while Malabanan also scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as BFP kept its second round hopes alive with a 2-2 card.

Behind a strong start, the Firefighters raced to a 26-15 lead before padding their lead to 58-33 at the turn. The AFP Cavaliers rallied at the resumption but the Firefighters doused cold water on their rally to join the GSIS side at fourth in Group A.

AFP fell to 3-1 in a tie with Senate in the tournament organized by UNTV for the country’s public servants.

In the other Group A match, GSIS came away with an 83-73 win over Department of Health while PDEA finally barged into the win column with a 10586 victory over Department of Justice.

The chosen charity of the champion team, according to UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon, will receive P4 million while the beneficiary of the runner-up team will receive P2 million.
