The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) is teaming up with Kepco Philippines Corp. (Kephilco) for a feasibility study on the development of a smart city energy management system in New Clark City.

BCDA said the partnership intends to create a nonbinding framework for both parties to discuss and explore collaborative opportunities for the construction, operation and maintenance of the smart city energy management system.

Through the smart city energy management system, BCDA plans to optimize the use of basic utilities such as power in making New Clark City a smart and modern city with fast interconnection, stable and reliable power supply.

“This complements highimpact infrastructure projects in Clark, including railways to ease traffic and provide interconnectivity in the whole city,” the state-owned corporation said.

Kephilco is an affiliate of Korea Electric Power Corp. (Kepco) which is mandated to enter into and engage in the business of developing and operating power generation facilities, as well as utilizing the smart grid or micro grid technology in New Clark City.

In 2016, Kepco was named the world’s best company in the electric utility sector and was ranked first in the top 100 Asian power company by Forbes Global 2000.

Kepco has projects in 24 countries including Japan, China, US and the Middle East.

BCDA said South Korea’s expertise in smart city development, which prioritizes a low carbon and green growth society, makes it a great example for BCDA’s development projects in Clark.
