Still a queen

- By JOSE PAOLO DELA CRUZ

And look at her now. A queen still, even after her official reign as Miss Universe 2015.

In PeopleAsia’s November 2017 issue, the beauty queen, actress and celebrity endorser leads the roster of game changers who are featured in the special issue.

“Life after the crown is hectic,” says the Filipina-German beauty queen during her interview with Allure’s assistant editor Büm D. Tenorio Jr. “But thank God it’s hectic. I don’t complain even if I don’t get a rest day. I stay relevant by doing a lot of things.”

Pia is currently the face of various businesses, which include a leading bank, confectionery brand, hair products, skincare line, homecare products, a telecommunications company and even a mobile device brand, among others. From the pageant stage, Pia has also set her sights on conquering the silver screen with her upcoming Metro Manila Film Fest entry, opposite Vice Ganda.

The stunning 28-year-old also reveals that she still actively pursues her HIV/AIDS awareness advocacies, even after having handed over the crown to Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere of France.

The PeopleAsia article also explores a heartwarming side of Pia, the doting aunt to her three-year-old niece Lara. A charmer herself, Lara was with Pia during the cover shoot, which was held at the Raffles Makati Hotel.

Pia, while considered as one of the most beautiful women in the world these days, also admitted to being an “ugly duckling” growing up, what with her unruly hair and slouchy posture. “I doubted myself a lot of times. Nobody told me that I was beautiful when I was growing up,” she shares, to the disbelief of those who heard her.

Photographed by Dookie Ducay in a photo shoot art directed by PeopleAsia’s Ramon Joseph Ruiz, Pia marks her second time on the PeopleAsia cover. Her first magazine cover as Miss Universe was, after all, the February 2016 issue of PeopleAsia, which was photographed at the Royal Suite of the iconic Waldorf Astoria in New York, barely a month after her coronation.

Joining Pia in this issue are other game changers from various fields. One of them is Grace Barbers Baja, the domestic goddess behind burgeoning lifestyle blog

Thespoiledmummy.com. Aside from blogging, the beautiful homemaker also puts on a new hat as an entrepreneur, what with the success of her home line (Grace Home), and gourmet food line (Taste by Grace Home).

Also in this issue is the handsome new creative director of Salvatore Ferragamo Paul Andrew, who shares his insights on keeping the famed lifestyle brand relevant in the fashion world; husband-andwife tandem Richard Mills and Rebecca Bustamante Mills, who advocate Philippine excellence through Asia CEO Forum; young architect Rebecca Plaza who believes in sustainable and ecofriendly architecture; and lady dermatologist Dr. Jennie FranciscoDiaz of Skin 101, who takes the pursuit of beauty to the next level. The special issue also gives readers their first glimpse at the latest model of Volvo’s gamechanging XC60. Recognized as one of the safest, most intelligent and comfortable cars in the world, the XC60 promises to redefine luxury in every drive.
