DILG orders stricter measures on use of firecrackers
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered concerned agencies to enforce stricter measures on the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices to reduce casualties during the holiday season.
DILG officer-in-charge Catalino Cuy ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to inspect establishments engaged in the firecracker trade and confiscate and destroy prohibited pyrotechnic devices that can harm the public.
Police have been directed to renew its information, education and communication drive on the dangers of using banned firecrackers.
The Bureau of Fire Protection has been tasked to support the police.
“While firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices have been part of the Christmas celebration, it is vital to enforce stricter rules and regulations on these matters to attain a lesser if not zero firecracker-related injuries and casualties this year,” Cuy said yesterday.
President Duterte signed Executive Order No. 28 limiting the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
A total of 350 fireworksrelated incidents were recorded during the New Year revelry last year.
Cuy expressed hope the country would have fewer cases with the strict enforcement of EO 28.
